Introduce Yourself

Hello! I ran into a few people during Pax South, and, being very invested in cookies within my own personal life, became very interested in your organization.

I saw my first Brigadier on Friday in queue for a panel and didn’t think much of it. Later on, I was awake in bed at two in the morning aimlessly reading the #Pax hashtag on the South app and saw a number of tweets asking for help and how the cookie brigade was horribly low on volunteers. Well, on Saturday, I randomly ran into a couple with their bag of cookies and thought, “What the hell”. A few minutes later I was in room 008 getting the general break down of what the brigade was and what the hell was going on. Soon after my lanyard was significantly heavier with pins and a bag of cookies of my own.

I’ve been a fairly hard core fundraiser for most of my life. I’ve been involved in enough organizations and non-profits that you would stop reading this post when you saw the list. I’ve raised more money before and I have raised less. Still, between the amazing energy that envelops PAX and knowing that I went out and raised over $1,200 in a day and a half leaves me more emotional than I have ever been before.

Anyway, what I’m actually saying is I think I’ll hang around for a while and see you guys next year.

Hi guys,
I joined today. Sadly, I missed the last two PAX Prime shows, but I got my hands on tickets this year so I’m just hoping to be able to support the cause in some way/shape/or form. I always see your posts, and I’ve had the pleasure of bumping into a brigadier on the floor in the past.

I just think you and what you all do is wonderful. I’m looking forward to maybe working with some of you

Hi, I will be returning. I’ve had to step back the last year due to health and my friends and family have been kind of enough to join in to help me. It is such an important, fun event. We will be making treats, not sure which one yet. Glad to see such a great crowd already.

Hi everyone!

I’m Ben, and joined up recently. This will be my second PAX West, the wife and I came for a Saturday in 2013 with our 15 month old daughter. I noticed the cookie brigade while sitting in the line for Major Nelson’s podcast. Having been a cookie maker for a long time, and having briefly had a cookie business out of my home I thought I could help bake some cookies for a great cause.

I’m hoping we can get Friday off from work so that we are in Seattle from the start of PAX, but our work may not let us off until noonish (we will be coming from Portland).

Great to be here!

And now I shall reintroduce myself, as I’ve been MIA since 2009.

I’m chibidani. I baked/distributed cookies at PAX West in 2008 and 2009, when it was the only PAX. I even did so with a 5 month old baby in 2009! I was also involved in making the buttons way back then.

We are finally headed back to PAX West for Saturday and Sunday, and I want to help out a bit. I’ll admit I’m more interested in doing stuff for me, since it has been so long, but I can’t abandon you guys entirely. Most likely I’ll bake lots of cookies, and then distribute some of them.

Happy to have you all!

Hello Everyone! I’m Skyqween, though I’ve also been called Erin.

This PAX West was my first PAX, and I promptly went about giving away cookies on my own because… I had cookies. Then I tried to give cookies to a cookie monster, who brought me to the joys of the cookie brigade. Then the rest of my PAX was all worked out!

Let’s see… I’m a Seattle local, I bake and give away cookies, but seeing the recipes here I need to up my game… and this is a wonderful, magical, place.

Hi there!

I am omega! Having the cookie brigade offer me cookies was almost my first experience at my first PAX a million* years ago, and while I have gotten more involved with PAX (enforcing etc.) in the interim, the CB are some of my favorite moments of the show. I really appreciate everything you wonderful folks do and am happy to be a part of something so delicious!

I will only be able to bake for the first little while, but hopefully I will be better able to help in more ways soon.

If you see me (and my lanyards) at the show, stop and say hello, and I will offer you a hug!

Hi, I’m Athene. I live in Austin, TX. I love to bake. Almost every time I see Paul and Storm I bring them cookies. My family attends PAX South every year. I’ve never seen the Cookie Brigade there, so I’d love to help out!

Hi everyone! I’m Nicole, and I’m an avid Texas cosplayer and con goer. My home PAX is PAX South! I’ve seen brigadiers around before and I love, love, love all their hard work and delicious cookies. Y’all are seriously one of my favorite parts of the convention. I’m hoping to be more involved this year to help spread the love!

Omega! So glad to see you joined. Happy to have Raven and Athene as well. We’re so happy to have more people.

Hi peeps! I’m Melissa and I live in the Austin, Texas area. Gave my boyfriend PAX South tix for Christmas and this is the first time either of us have attended. I heard about the Cookie Brigade on the PAX South forums and was instantly intrigued. I love to cook and bake, and really like sharing that with others to bring a little happiness to their lives. I volunteer with a group called Bake a Wish here in Austin, where volunteers bake, decorate, and deliver birthday cakes to people who are in need and otherwise wouldn’t have one. (Mostly kids in group homes or shelters, some adults as well in similar situations.) So you guys seem pretty much right up my alley.

The bf and I are planning to help distribute (just submitted my application!) and I will probably bake some cookies, too.

I’m Katie, and I live just outside Boston. I like baking cookies almost as much as I like eating them.

Hello everyone, my name is Alicia. I live in southeastern MA. This year, I am excited to say, will be my first PAX experience. I’ve heard such good things about the Brigade from friends who have attended East in the past, and I love baking (especially for a good cause) so I really had no choice but to sign up. Looking forward to meeting the PAX East crew and spreading joy through delicious baked goods!

Welcome Everyone!

Greetings friends!

My name is Lindsey. I have been attending PAX since 2013 and decided it was finally time that I take the plunge and become a member of the Cookie Brigade! Last month, I took my first steps and baked over 200 cookies for the Cookie Brigade, which my friend then took to PAX South. I plan to do the same again since I will be attending PAX East in just a few weeks. I look forward to working with you all and helping raise money for the cause!

Cheers

Howdy all,

My name is Lindsay, not to be confused with previous poster Lindsey.

I live in Perth, Western Australia. Pretty much the other side of the world to most Pax locations and 5 hours flight to the nearest. Not that it’s stopped me from seeing a bunch of them. Boston in 2010, every Melbourne PAX and San Antonio just this year with my wife, who some of you may know as Luckycharm from the pin trading.
That’s where I got the idea to join Cookie Brigade, in a roundabout way. We talked to Senno at Aus last year and the poor guy sounded run off his feet and wasn’t able to enjoy the convention itself so much. So I figure I could afford to share the load, so to speak.

I look forward to collaborating with you all in the future.

Hello! I’m Cat. Baking has been a hobby of me for awhile (mostly just cookies) and I often send them to work with my friends and they get raving reviews. This has inspired me to share more of them. I don’t care about making a profit for myself because I just enjoy knowing I made something people like and it makes me feel useful. As somebody who struggles with depression and PTSD on a daily basis, knowing that I can make somebody smile or feel good for even a moment is very fulfilling for me. I’m pretty introverted while I’m assessing situations but can become incredibly outgoing and the “center of the party”, if you will, around the right crowd. Unfortunately my social anxiety and resting bitch face can make me seem unfriendly but I assure you, I am not.
I am a Twitch streamer as well but I have only streamed about 10 times due to my anxiety, but 10 percent of my Twitch donations go to suicide prevention, and when I worked at GameWorks downtown I would always give my tips from the day to the first homeless person I crossed paths with on my way home. I look forward to being a part of this team as I have been an attendee since 2010 (even run a couple booths) and have seen the brigadiers around and always wanted to bake for them.
As Trump would say, I make the best cookies, my cookies are the greatest, I know everything about cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies.
I also do photography and would be more than happy to take pictures for the Brigade’s social media accounts.

We’re happy to have you. Sounds like you’ll fit right in. Make sure you know where HQ is, a lot of distributors deal with anxiety (me too!), PTSD, plain old introverts or what not and having a place to recoup that is semi-private is what keeps most of us going. For some reason PAX doesn’t tend to follow the normal rules in this area since being in your ‘tribe’ lets down those barriers. Keep asking questions and know that once you get on-site and have an hour or so under your belt you’ll be a lot more comfortable. If you want you can even get your feet wet distributing at the Pre-pax game night Thursday at the Sheraton. We run a cookie drop-off and if you let me know when you’re coming I’ll try to be on hand to distribute some with you to get started. If not we’ll work it all out Friday morning. Good luck!

Heya!

I’m Allie, and this is my… 8th? PAX (West/Prime/Whatever, the OG PAX :)) – and I’d rather use my downtime for good rather than evil (evil in this case being buying things I don’t need, ha ha). I usually tell people they can recognize me by my mermaid blue hair but, this being PAX, that’s not really enough to make me stand out  I’m super excited that I finally got off my butt and applied to be a Brigadier this year – I’m looking forward to the cookie hustle!
